Hello

I would just like to share with you our new shop banner from our etsy shop, and also our new avatar which now appears on this blog. We would like to extend a special thank you to Nevena of Photosprint, who also has a shop on etsy. Anyone who has ever created a banner for an on-line shop will know that it usually requires lots of thought and amendments, so thank you again Nevena for your help and patience! Nevena managed to incorporate our new 'little girl holding a marguerite image', all drawn by my husband (Jenny's Dad, of course!). We also included some lovely liberty fabric, as we use liberty so much in our dresses. We are very pleased with the end result!

It's strawberry time!!

We grow delicious strawberries in our Lincolnshire garden, and we have a good crop this year, so my husband has been busy picking them ready for me to make jam!

Today I have been slaving over a hot stove, and the kitchen has smelt lovely. Strawberry jam can be tricky to set, so I always add lemon juice. The jam tastes gorgeous, so was well worth all the hard work!

To celebrate the strawberry season, I have today listed a 'strawberry skirt' to our etsy shop. So you see, it has been a busy day!

VINTAGE PATTERNS!

At daisyfleur, we like to use vintage patterns for alot of our dresses, particularly when sewing with the liberty fabrics. Some of our patterns date from the 1960s and 1970s. We get our patterns from various places - friends, etsy and e bay in particular. Here are some of our vintage patterns, followed by a selection of the dresses we have made using them.

This is a pattern we use alot for our liberty dresses. It dates from 1978. This dress, to fit a 9 month old baby is a gorgeous liberty fabric.

Here are two patterns from 1980, bought from one of our favourite etsy shops SewMeVintage. Underneath are two lovely liberty dresses for 6 month old babies.

Here is a gorgeous pinafore dress from a 1962 pattern. It is also available in pale blue. Both are to fit a 6 month old baby.

Here are some photos of our stall at a recent Craft Fair held at the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa. We had a lovely day, and sold quite a few items. My Mum came too, so we had 3 generations on the stall!

At daisyfleur we like to sew together whenever we can - it gives us a chance to look at our new materials and choose the ones we need for our next project, work on similar patterns together and pass on sewing tips! We love all the liberty fabrics, as can be seen by the photos below, where we are choosing our favourites.

We have recently discovered a new way of sewing together - we use skype! We both set up our laptops at an agreed time, and get busy with our sewing. The beauty of skype is that not only can we show each other how our work is progressing on the webcam, but can chat away for hours whilst we are cutting out and sewing, without the need to hold a phone! Our husbands have had to get used to hearing a familiar disembodied voice when they happen to enter the room! It is great fun.

New!! Introducing our new pink daisyfleur dress bags!!

I would like to introduce our new daisyfleur dress bags. They are pink, of course, and each bag is decorated with attractive motifs or trimming. All our dresses are now packed in these complimentary drawstring bags, which can be used to store all sorts of things such as shoes, ribbons or baby items.

I don't know if we've mentioned to you how much we love buttons before but we are both avid collectors. When I was a girl, I loved going through mum's button tin and matching together pairs or sorting buttons into groups by colour or style. The noise of the button tin when I shook it was the initial excitement followed by many happy hours spent playing with the delights inside.
As I got a little older, we used to use the buttons as currency whilst playing the card game "Black Widow" (also known as Black Maria) and my brother loved the big clumsy dark coat buttons whilst I strove to enhance my collection of 'loot' with tiny pretty brightly coloured buttons and those spares I remembered from dresses I wore as a little girl handmade by mum.

We've recently found the most wonderful shop on etsy Overspill and I wanted to share a few of their lovely delights with you today. I can guarantee they will soon be receiving a purchase from Daisyfleur......

Autumn Cooking & sewing

Although we've had some lovely sunny days here in the UK, you can really feel the Autumn chill in the early morning & evening air. I've noticed I'm starting to crave soups instead of salads and to celebrate some seasonal produce fresh from my Dad's garden I made some Butternut Squash soup & a Blackberry Crumble at the weekend. Delicious!

At daisyfleur, we've been embracing the change of season by introducing some new dresses in richer autumn tones like our pretty deep blue liberty dress & burnt orange jumper pictured here. Perfect to layer over a cream sweater, woolly tights or leggings.

Scented sachets of love

As promised here are some images of some of the projects we are working on using our organic Lincolnshire lavender. We started with some lavender hearts which I call scented satchets of love but this title could equally apply to the sweet little lavender bags we are making as these are perfect little gifts for friends, family or someone you love.
These would also be a perfect sleep aid for anyone you know who has trouble sleeping. We feel wonderfully calm after a scented sewing session!

To continue the yellow theme, I wanted to share with you a picture of recent custom made pinafore we made. It was commissioned by a friend for her 6 month granddaughter and the cute little frog theme was specially requested. We're thinking about making some similar dresses with different motifs such as flowers & butterflies or an animal of choice. Do let us know what you think.

The bright Spring weather in the UK (following a grey windy rainy spell) has inspired me to create a 'buttercup yellow' treasury on etsy. Yellow is a lovely fresh colour and seems the perfect colour to represent Spring. My garden is full of little brightly coloured yellow Narcissus, primroses & crocus and the shops are full of daffodils at the moment.

Its been a while since I've blogged so I thought I'd kick off this snowy day by sharing a great little Etsy Shop I've just come across. Not only do they have a great name - Marchare, inspired by the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland's mad hatters tea party (regular followers will know I have expressed my love of this book before!) but they sell wonderfully sweet little stamp sets. I've fallen in love with the Happy Life Wood Stamp Set and also the Love Themed and Simple Pattern sets shown here. Autumn Leaves, Autumn Flowers & Conkers

I'm just back from a sunny holiday on the island of Rhodes in Greece and my mum (the other half of daisyfleur) is just heading off for a holiday in Italy so we are like 'ships passing in the night' at the moment!
Despite being a sun worshiper, I've decided to embrace Autumn now that I'm home as there really is no doubt it arrived whilst I was away. The leaves are an array of beautiful orange hues and I'm planning a walk in the park this weekend to kick my way through the fallen leaves.

To celebrate Autumn we have some lovely new items in our store which I've featured here today. The rich brown fabric & velvet ribbon reminds me of conkers and these little skirts would be perfect for Fall layered over cream woolly tights or leggings. The skirts shown here are age 4-5years. Alice in Wonderland

I don't know about you but Alice in Wonderland is definitely one of my all time favourite books so you can imagine the excitement in the daisyfleur camp when we got a custom order to make an Alice in Wonderland apron for a 20month little girl! Our resident pinny expert Suzanne (my mum) created the lovely apron seen here & I made the matching alice band. That's one little girl all set to attend a Mad Hatters Tea Party!
This assignment bought back happy memories for both myself and my mum as she created a gorgeous Alice in Wonderland outfit for me when I was a little girl. I loved being Alice and have nurtured a liking for alice bands ever since. I can't wait for the new film starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. He is another of my all time favourites! Jenny ;o)

Having awoken to the sound of heavy rain I was just beginning to despair of grey old London when I logged onto Etsy & received the exciting news that we had been included in a treasury. I rushed off to check it out and was delighted to see the gorgeous warm reds and lovely eclectic items chosen by silverbeadsandclay. I then spent a happy few minutes browsing all the other stores and my mood visibly brightened. Craft Fair

As promised, here are some pictures from our recent craft fair! We had a really fun day and made some sales so we came away very happy.....particularly as we had also purchased some rather lovely goodies ;o) (which admittedly ate into our profit margin but sometimes its hard to resist!). It was the first time we had a stall with Tempo Promotes in Lincoln and we found the event to be very friendly and well organised and immediately signed up for a stall at the Christmas Fair!

Snuggly Slippers

In our household I'm famous for my ice cold feet but my hubby is not a fan when I squish them between his legs to warm them up in bed! Now that Autumn is upon us I suddenly realised I had no slippers as last years had worn out & it was with chilly feet that I decided to check out what Etsy had to offer. Today I wanted to show you some wonderful new Autumn fabrics we've been working with. Suzanne recently went to visit her very good friend Joan up in Lancashire (also a keen seamstress) who has a awe inspiring collection of fabrics, many of which are Liberty lawn prints or Laura Ashley Designs. Much to our delight, she generously donated some of them to daisyfleur! All of them are gorgeous and more than satisfy our craving for all things flowery. They also visited a wonderful fabric shop (I was most envious!), had great fun rummaging & more purchases were made - I am determined to accompany them next time! All these lovely fabrics have inspired us to work extra hard on our Winter Designs for next Saturday's Craft Fair. Check back then for pictures of our stand ;o) Jenny.

A week of firsts

Welcome to our first post on our brand new blog! Actually its a been a week of firsts at daisyfleur as not only have I set up our brand new blog but I also finally managed to bag a treasury on etsy! I had so much fun making it and am seriously worried it might become addictive........If I manage to work out how to post an image of my selection I will do as it was full of lovely etsy treasures all based around a theme of polka dots & leaves with a some cute little animals thrown in ;o) In the meantime, heres the link to view it online - it expires in 1 day so be quick!
